The clitoris is much bigger than the part you can see. The visible tip is only its front end.
- Glans. The small tip at the top of the vulva, where the inner labia meet. It is the most densely packed with nerve endings.
- Hood. The fold of skin that covers the glans and softens direct touch.
- Body. Runs back from the glans, under the skin.
- Legs (crura). Two arms that spread out from the body along the bones on either side.
- Bulbs. Two bulbs of spongy tissue that lie under the labia on either side of the vaginal opening. Some anatomists count them as part of the clitoris.
When you are aroused, all of these fill with blood and swell. The hood may draw back so the glans is easier to see, though this differs a lot between women.
The inner parts of the clitoris lie close to the urethra and the front wall of the vagina, and some researchers describe them as one linked group of tissue. That is one reason touch on the G-spot area can feel connected to the clitoris.
How to touch it: why the tip of the clitoris needs a buffer.
