Squeezing Your Thighs Speeds the Climb, It Doesn't Turn Up the Touch

Two pairs of legs crossed on a bed

Squeezing your thighs together does not make the touch on your clitoris stronger. What many women describe is that it makes the climb faster. Your own muscles work like an accelerator, separate from how strong the touch is, and you control it. This article explains what squeezing does, why it is a real way to reach orgasm and not a strange habit, and how to use it on its own, with a toy, or with a partner.

What happens when you squeeze

When you close your thighs and press, several things happen at once:

  • The labia close over the clitoris. Instead of touch landing directly on its surface, the clitoris is pressed through soft tissue. Some women describe the feeling as broad and slow-building rather than sharp.
  • The pressure reaches the hidden parts. The squeeze also presses the tissue beside the vaginal opening, where the inner parts of the clitoris lie (more: how the clitoris is built).
  • Your muscles tense. Your thigh muscles tighten. Some women find that tensing their thighs or belly helps them finish. Orgasm is also accompanied by muscle tension, but each person can experience the squeeze differently.
  • The pressure can stay steady. Some women find the pressure easy to hold evenly, which lets them put their attention on the feeling.

Still pressure is a real way to stimulate the clitoris in its own right, not a poor cousin of rubbing (more: the article on touching the clitoris). Squeezing is one form of it.

Everyone's relationship with it is different

For some women, squeezing is the only way they come. Some need their legs pressed together even with a partner or a toy, and cannot feel much with their legs apart. Some have never tried it. Some find it pleasant but not enough on its own. And some women are the opposite: they need their legs straight and wide apart, tensed, to get there. All of these are normal. Their preferred amount and kind of tension can differ.

Positions that let you keep squeezing

What matters is being able to hold your thighs together with some force for a while. Some options:

  • Lying on your side, one leg on top of the other.
  • Standing, leaning over the edge of the bed, a wall or a table, legs straight and together.
  • Sitting on the edge of a chair or on a pillow, legs together and hanging down.

Kneeling usually needs your knees apart, which makes it harder to close your thighs. Try a few and keep the one that feels best to you.

You can also try moving your hips instead of your hands. Some women find that rocking the pelvis slowly forward and back helps the toy between their legs move along the line from above the clitoris toward the vaginal opening.

Adding a toy

Squeezing gives you pressure but no vibration, and some women find it gets them very close but not over. A toy between your thighs can add what is missing. Because your legs are already pressing hard, the shape matters:

  • Flat and light, so it is not pushed out and does not dig into bone.
  • Soft silicone, because a hard edge under that much pressure can cause pain.
  • Two tips that sit on either side of the clitoris rather than one head pressing on the glans. With your legs already squeezing, direct pressure on the tip can be too much for many women, though some like it.
  • Strength that suits you. Squeezed between your legs, a toy can feel different from how it feels in your hand, so start low and find your own setting.

Place it at the front, between your legs, with the tips on either side of your clitoris. Do not push it in deep. Close your legs and let them hold it.

Now you have three dials: the toy's setting, how tightly you squeeze, and whether you rock your hips. Try changing one at a time.

Lube matters more here

With your thighs pressed together, contact is tight. Without enough lube, sliding turns into rubbing, and pleasure turns into stinging. Use more water-based lube than usual, on yourself and on the toy, and keep it within reach (more: lube and silicone).

When it goes numb

Because the pressure stays in one place, squeezing can make you go numb after a while. Squeezing harder usually makes it worse. Move the contact point instead: rock your hips so the toy slides, loosen your legs for a moment, or change the setting (more: When it goes numb: pause, don't turn it up).

With a partner, and with something inside

Squeezing works during sex too, if you both want to try it. One set-up: you lean over the edge of the bed with your legs straight and together, your partner enters from behind, and a flat toy sits between your thighs at the front. You stay in charge of how tightly you squeeze and how deep and fast it goes, and your partner follows your lead. Getting into position can feel awkward the first time; standing at the edge of the bed makes it easier. Stop if anything hurts, stings or goes numb.

With something inside, squeezing can feel different: fuller, and for some women slower to peak. Whether that is better is a matter of taste (more: Clitoral stimulation during penetration). If pain, numbness or swelling lasts after you stop, see Toys and your health: when to check with a doctor.

What to take away

Squeezing your thighs is a real way to come. It does not make the touch stronger; for many women it makes the climb faster. Your legs act as an accelerator you control, not a volume knob. It is normal whether it is your main way, an extra, or not for you. Choose a position where you can keep squeezing, use plenty of lube, and if you add a toy, pick one that is flat, soft and sits on either side of the clitoris. When it goes numb, move rather than squeeze harder.
